In mid-2025, in Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, as the huge blades and the engine casing were precisely connected at an altitude of over 140 meters, the world's largest 4,000-ton all-terrain crane, manufactured by China United Heavy Industries, successfully completed the installation of the mixed-tower wind turbine with millimeter-level precision. This high-safety, high-efficiency and high-quality lifting performance display the demeanor of this global lifting champion.
High-altitude performance with sub-millimeter precision!
The most powerful wheeled crane achieves another success
The 100-megawatt wind-storage base project in Aroukhorqin, Inner Mongolia, is one of the third batch of large-scale wind power base projects under the "Sand-Ground" program of the country. The project adopts 10-megawatt onshore wind turbines and a 140-meter high hybrid tower technology. The
installation process is very challenging and requires strict requirements.
This lifting operation adopted the integrated lifting method for the blades, that is, all the blades were assembled into a rotor on the ground, and then lifted and installed by a crane at one go. The precision and stability requirements were extremely high. The lifting weight of this operation reached 220 tons, and the lifting height was 140 meters, equivalent to more than 40 floors. The installation of the rotor was like threading a needle in the air. As the world's largest-tonnage, most powerful lifting capacity and highest-tech crawler crane, Zonglian Heavy Industry's 4000-ton all-terrain crane successfully completed this lifting operation. With a perfect high-altitude lifting show, it received high recognition from the construction party.
Luo Xianzhi, the global R&D center director of Zhonglian Heavy Industry's Engineering Cranes Branch, explained: "The higher the height of the wind turbine, the greater the challenge to the lifting accuracy. We have equipped a micro-motion control system on the 4,000-ton equipment. During the alignment of the wind turbine blades, the control accuracy reaches the millimeter level, enabling 'one-time successful positioning'. Compared to traditional equipment, the efficiency has increased by more than three times. This not only significantly improves the construction efficiency but also greatly reduces the construction risks."
Industry "ceiling"!
International leading strength guarantees the construction of wind power projects
After the hoisting was completed, the on-site operator candidly stated: "As the operator of the 4,000-ton all-terrain crane produced by Hualong Heavy Machinery, I am very familiar with the quality and performance of this product. Such a good performance is quite normal! Actually, what I like the most is its transfer capability. Whether it's a vertical slope, a horizontal slope, or a sandy and bumpy road, it can achieve high mobility and all-terrain transfer. This is so convenient!"
The 4,000-ton all-terrain crane is a new innovative product of Zonglian Heavy Industry, which has surpassed itself continuously and broken the world record for the third time after achieving two world records with 2,000-ton and 2,400-ton models. It has set numerous industry records and has reached the international leading level in overall technology and product indicators. It is not only the only 4,000-ton all-terrain crane in the industry that meets the regulations for road travel, but also the only wheeled crane in the industry that can perform the overall hoisting of 190-meter-tall and 16MW wind turbines. It provides a solid and reliable guarantee for the development of China's wind power construction.
Currently, the trend of large-scale wind power is becoming more and more prominent, and the installation of super-large and super-high wind turbines faces even more stringent challenges. High-quality and high-performance lifting equipment is needed. The 4,000-ton all-terrain crane of Zonglian Heavy Industry reshapes the industry ceiling in terms of lifting performance, traveling and transfer, and construction operations. With its powerful strength, it is playing an important role in various wind power projects.
